Le Frère Saltel a été Directeur d’école à Estaing. Il herborise dans la vallée du Lot, aux environs de Salles Curan. Il entretient des liens avec le docteur Gustave Hermann à qui il offre des échantillons de mousses et de lichens, aujourd'hui conservé au sein de l'Université Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier.
